NeuroMind Pro Ingredients: What Is Inside Each Capsule

One hundred and fifty-one milligrams, seven names, and no individual amounts at all.

Quick answer

Each NeuroMind Pro capsule has three dosed vitamins and a 151 mg proprietary blend.

The vitamins are B1 6 mg, B6 8.5 mg and B12 24 mcg. The blend lists caffeine from green coffee bean, L-tyrosine, theacrine, theobromine, bacopa monnieri, rhodiola root and huperzia serrata.

See the full label panel.

Three vitamin rows with amounts and percentages, then one blend line with seven names under it — followed by the ceiling each position allows, which is arithmetic we did ourselves.

What is not on this panel

There is no proprietary blend. Ten dietary ingredients are declared and every one of them carries a figure. That is the only time this desk has been able to write that sentence about a product, and it is why the rest of this site can do arithmetic instead of guessing.

Two standardisations, and why they are the only lever here

Most of this blend is names without numbers. Two of the seven carry a percentage, and those two percentages are the only reason any figure on this page can be expressed in a compound rather than a weight of powder.

Bacopa monnieri whole plant extract, 20% bacosides A&B. Bacosides are the compounds the bacopa research is written about. Twenty per cent of a ceiling of 30.2 mg of extract is at most 6 mg of bacosides.

Huperzia serrata whole herb extract, 1% huperzine-A. This one matters more. One per cent of a ceiling of 21.6 mg of extract is at most 216 micrograms of huperzine A — a figure small enough to be measured in micrograms and significant enough to sit inside the range used in clinical studies.

The other five have nothing. Caffeine, tyrosine, theacrine and theobromine are single compounds, so a weight would be enough on its own if any weight were printed. Rhodiola rosea root is declared with no extract ratio and no marker compound, so even if its amount were printed there would be nothing to convert it into.

What this means in practice

When you compare this product with another, compare the standardised compound rather than the extract weight — and where neither is printed, as here, there is nothing to compare at all. That is not a rhetorical point. It is the practical consequence of a blend.

The most each one can be, against the research

One linear scale, and every bar is a ceiling rather than a dose. Read the last two rows differently from the first three.

The most this capsule can containWhat the research usedA ceiling, not a targetper 1-capsule serving, one linear scale

One linear scale, so the comparison is honest rather than flattering. Every bar is an upper bound derived from 21 CFR 101.36(c), which requires the ingredients in a blend to be listed in descending order of predominance by weight. Nothing on this chart is a measured dose, because this label publishes none.
Every bar is a ceiling0 of 7

Not one ingredient in this blend has a printed amount, so not one bar on this chart is a dose. Each one is the most that can be present, calculated from the 151 mg total and the position the ingredient occupies in the descending-order list. The real amount could be any fraction of it, because the rule sets an upper bound and no lower bound whatsoever. That is the honest way to draw this label, and it is why every bar carries a hard edge instead of a value.

The ingredient that deserves the most attention, and gets the least

Six of the seven blend ingredients are things you could argue about. One is different in kind.

Huperzine A is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. The monograph we read describes it as a substance purified from Chinese club moss that blocks the enzyme breaking down acetylcholine, and so “causes an increase in the levels of acetylcholine”. That is the same broad mechanism as prescription Alzheimer's medicines.

It has a real dose-response literature: 50 to 200 mcg twice daily in Alzheimer's disease, 30 mcg twice daily for age-related memory decline, 100 mcg twice daily in a study of adolescent memory. It is described as possibly safe for short periods of less than three months.

It also has a real caution list: slow heart rate and heart disease, epilepsy, gastrointestinal blockage and peptic ulcers, asthma and emphysema, urinary obstruction, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. And a real interaction list: anticholinergic drugs, Alzheimer medications including donepezil and tacrine, and cholinergic medicines used for glaucoma.

Now the arithmetic. Huperzia serrata is seventh of seven in a 151 mg blend, so at most 21.6 mg, and the extract is standardised to 1% huperzine A. The ceiling is 216 micrograms — which is inside the studied range rather than a rounding error below it.

So this capsule may deliver a pharmacologically meaningful dose of an enzyme inhibitor with documented drug interactions, and it may deliver a trace, and the label gives you no way at all to find out which.

The difference between this and the other six

For bacopa or theacrine, an undisclosed amount means you may be wasting your money. For an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, an undisclosed amount is a question your pharmacist cannot answer. Those are not the same problem.

The most each ingredient can be, against what was studied

The middle column is not a dose. It is the largest amount the descending-order rule permits, given a 151 mg total and the position the ingredient occupies.

Ingredient questions

What is actually in one capsule?

Vitamin B1 as thiamine HCL at 6 mg, vitamin B6 from pyridoxine HCL at 8.5 mg, vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin at 24 mcg, and a 151 mg proprietary blend of caffeine from green coffee bean, L-tyrosine, theacrine, theobromine, bacopa monnieri extract standardised to 20% bacosides, rhodiola rosea root and huperzia serrata extract standardised to 1% huperzine A. Plus rice flour, a hypromellose capsule shell, magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide. That is the complete list, and the blend is the only part with no numbers.

What is a proprietary blend?

A way of declaring several ingredients under one total weight instead of individually. 21 CFR 101.36(c) allows it: the blend's total must be printed and the ingredients must be listed in descending order of predominance by weight, and that is all the regulation requires. Here it means one number, 151 mg, covering seven ingredients.

Where do the ceilings on this site come from?

From the descending-order rule, and nothing else. If ingredients are listed heaviest first, the ingredient in position n cannot be more than the total divided by n — otherwise the ones above it would have to be smaller, which would break the order. So in a 151 mg blend the second ingredient is at most 75.5 mg, the fifth at most 30.2 mg, the seventh at most 21.6 mg. It is arithmetic, not an estimate.

So the ceilings tell you the doses?

No, and this matters. A ceiling is an upper bound. The descending-order rule sets no lower bound whatsoever. The bacopa could be 30.2 mg or it could be 0.5 mg; both are consistent with everything the label prints. Every figure on this site marked with a ≤ sign is the most that can be there, not the amount that is.

What is huperzine A?

A compound purified from Chinese club moss that acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor — it blocks the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, so acetylcholine levels rise. That is the same broad mechanism as prescription Alzheimer's medicines. It is the pharmacologically most serious thing in this capsule, and it is the seventh name in an undisclosed blend.

How much huperzine A is in it?

At most 216 micrograms. The huperzia serrata extract is seventh of seven, so it cannot exceed 21.6 mg, and it is standardised to 1% huperzine A. Studies have used 50 to 200 mcg twice daily. That ceiling sits inside the studied range, which makes it the one number on this label a buyer most needs and the label does not print.

How much bacopa is in it?

At most 30.2 mg, and possibly far less. It is fifth of seven in a 151 mg blend. The systematic review we read covered six randomised trials at 300 to 450 mg of extract a day over twelve weeks — so the lowest studied dose is roughly twice the weight of the entire blend.

What about the L-tyrosine?

An amino acid studied for cognitive performance under stress such as cold or sleep deprivation. The monograph we read gives clinical doses of 100 to 150 mg per kilogram of body weight per day — seven to ten grams for a 70 kg adult — and notes that manufacturers commonly recommend 500 to 1,500 mg. Tyrosine is second in this blend, so it is at most 75.5 mg.

What about the theacrine?

A purine alkaloid chemically related to caffeine. The pilot trial we read used 200 mg in fifteen healthy subjects, reported significant improvements in energy and reductions in fatigue without changes in blood pressure or heart rate, and described its findings as preliminary. Theacrine is third here, so at most 50.3 mg.

What about the rhodiola?

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health is direct about it: “There isn't enough reliable evidence to determine whether rhodiola or its components are useful for any health-related purpose”, and most human research is of low-to-moderate quality. It is described as possibly safe for up to twelve weeks. Sixth here, so at most 25.2 mg.

Are the vitamin percentages correct?

Yes, all three. We recalculated them against the Daily Values the NIH publishes. Thiamin's DV is 1.2 mg, so 6 mg is 500%. Vitamin B6's is 1.7 mg, so 8.5 mg is 500%. Vitamin B12's is 2.4 mcg, so 24 mcg is 1000%. The printed figures match. It is the only part of this panel where checking is possible, and it passes.

Why does it say caffeine from green coffee?

Because that is the source material. Green coffee is unroasted coffee bean, and the ingredient is named as caffeine derived from it rather than as caffeine anhydrous. Nothing on the label says how much of the blend it represents.

Is it 100% natural?

Natural has no regulatory definition for a dietary supplement, so the roundel means whatever the reader supplies. The panel declares thiamine hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride and methylcobalamin — manufactured vitamin forms — plus caffeine and standardised extracts. All ordinary, all disclosed, none of them foraged.
